The Foss Home Executive Offices
Geisinger Medical Center Danville, PA 2008The Foss Home is named for Dr. Harold Foss, the mayo Clinic physician whom Abigail Geisinger chose in 1915 as cheif-of-staff for her newly founded hospital. Today, the Geisinger Health System is a 13,000-person employer and one of the nation's leading fully integrated health services organizations. For 25 years the Foss Home was Dr. Foss' residence. In the 1950's, the Foss Home became the senior executive office building for the Geisinger Medical Center, as well as the venue for Geisinger's Board meetings.
Overlooking the hospital from a hillside, the Foss Home project consisted of a new 10,000 SF addition and the complete renovation of the existing 12,000 SF facility. Included are eight executive offices and areas for nine administrative assistants, the modernization of the 90-person Board Room, a new elevator and stair tower, restrooms, a new secondary board room, conference rooms, a catering kitchen, and ancillary support spaces.
WKL was responsible for all architectural, engineering, interior design, and furniture selection. We were charged with maintaining the aesthetic of the highly visible existing Neo-Colonial house, both in the character of the improvements and the appointments within. Documentation of this complex addition and restoration required over 100 drawings.
